Cargo Capacity

Fold both rear seat backs for a flat load surface and up to 68 cu. ft. of total cargo space. Or fold down either of the 60/40 split rear seat backs and still have room for a passenger. If you're carrying items such as luggage, leave both seat backs up and you'll have 34 cu. ft. of cargo space. For more space, available roof-rack side rails with available crossbars* let you carry more cargo, especially items that don't transport easily inside the vehicle.

*Available crossbars are a factory-installed option or dealer-installed accessory.

Curve Control and Torque Vectoring Control

Curve Control can sense if you're going too fast and slow the vehicle down using throttle reduction and anti-lock braking. Once you're into the curve, G-forces tend to transfer more traction to the outside tires than to the inside ones. Torque Vectoring Control enhances this traction by transferring torque to the wheels that have the most grip, reducing understeer and forcing the front end to hug the inside of the curve.

Three-Engine Lineup

Choose the Escape model that matches your driving style: the Escape S and 168-hp 2.5L I-4 with intake variable cam timing (iVCT); the SE or SEL, powered by the 1.5L EcoBoost® for balanced power and efficiency;* and the 245-hp** 2.0L EcoBoost with Twin-Scroll technology that gathers exhaust from pairs of cylinders in alternating sequence, maximizing pulse energy to the turbine wheel for quick torque delivery. The six-speed SelectShift® transmission offers the convenience of an automatic or the sporty feel of a manual. Plus, EcoBoost engines feature Auto Start-Stop Technology that can help lower fuel consumption and vehicle emissions during city driving when your vehicle comes to a stop. The engine shuts off and then seamlessly restarts when you step on the accelerator.

*EPA-estimated rating of 23 City/30 HWY/26 combined mpg, FWD, 1.5L EcoBoost. Actual mileage will vary.**Horsepower achieved with 93-octane fuel.

Ready to configure your perfect Ford Escape? Consider these four great options:

  • Base engine, turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine with 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque
  • Upgraded gas engine, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque
  • Hybrid power, 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid engine with 200 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque
  • Plug-in hybrid power, 2.5-liter four-cylinder plug-in hybrid engine with 221 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque

Utility and Cargo Space

All three SUVs have plenty of cargo space inside, which is made more flexible and useful thanks to backseats that fold flat. In fact, the Ford Escape can hold 33.5 cubic feet with the seats in place, and up to 65.4 cubic feet with the seats folded. Plus, it's the only SUV of these three to offer standard sliding rear seats, allowing for even more flexibility when it comes to toting passengers and cargo.

When it comes to towing your family popup camper or small fishing boat, however, the Ford Escape has the other two SUVs beat. The Escape has a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds. The Subaru Forester tops out at 1,500 pounds. The Toyota RAV4 also offers just 1,500 pounds on most trim levels, although there is one trim level, the Toyota RAV4 Adventure, that can go up to 3,500 pounds, but it's the only one in the lineup to offer that level of power.
